Millet’s:-  what are millets ?? millets are multi seeds grasses for human consumption and  for livestock feed… we find these days people are more focused on the health, but even they find it more difficult to follow the proper food diet…what may be the reason ?? nothing but the busy lifestyle these days. so we can adopt a little change in our lifestyle and add millets to it …which can really help in all the healthy ways…

Millet’s are grown all around the world,  but still, it is grown more in developing countries … we can find different types of millets grown around the world. millet likely originated in Africa but then spread through Asia and the Middle East as early as 10,000 years ago. 

 

Millets are very important for our health benefits … as millets are more valuable additions to diets around the world, millets provide to our body the most energy needed and it also contains vitamin – B.

 

 THE CONTAINS OF MILLETS:- 

Millets are given importance for its high content of 

  1.  vitamin B,
  2.  calcium,
  3.  iron
  4. potassium,
  5.  zinc,
  6.  magnesium

 

Millets good for the heart:-  millets can be said is the protector of our heart, if we follow a proper diet with the nutrition guide … we can be stress-free related to our heart-related problems… millets are the rich source of magnesium, which is an important mineral for reducing blood pressure and the risk of heart attack or heart stroke…

Millets help to control the blood pressure because of its rich source of magnesium and it is also a great source of potassium…

 

Millets help to controls diabetes:- we find in India more than  70-80%  0f them are getting diabetes at the very young age this all because of a stressful lifestyle, no proper diet, depending on junk foods instead of healthy food … millets contain the efficiency of insulin and glucose in the body, thereby preventing this disease. so the diabetics can use these millets in there diet… 

 

Controls Cholesterol Levels:- the high fiber levels in millet make for an ideal cholesterol-lowering approach. Dietary fiber eliminates…  

 

Millets prevent cancer:- these days we find most of the women are diagnosed with breast cancer this can be helpful as with the high content of  FIBER in millets helps women to reduce their chances of breast cancer by more than 50% … And also by eating more than 30 grams of fiber every day.this is an advice that every woman should consider and follow!

 

 

 

 

Prevents Asthma:- it has come to light that the millets can help to prevent Asthma since childhood and can also prevent it from developing in the first place…

Let me be your helping hand in preparing some healthy recipes prepared from millets for your healthy lifestyle… so let me attack your kitchen now…

Let’s us  start with our little ones, we mothers always have complained that our kids don’t get proper nutrition and we always get worries they don’t even have proper food… so here is the recipe for your little ones , from the age of ( 1year to 10years ) you can give them this as the healthy breakfast… which contains all healthy millets in it can say a good food package…

       Let’s get healthy with our little ones with homemade instead of depending on outside food…

                                                                                 Multi-grain-malt 


Ing-
Ragi – 4cups
Rice – 4cups
Wheat – 2cups
Millets – ½cup
Moong – 1cup

Dry fruits –
Badam
Cashew
Akroot
( have taken 8 to 9)

Method: –
1. Wash all above ingredients
2. Soak overnight
3. Drain water and spread on a clean cloth and dry in the sun
4. You can find them sprouted
5. Now dry roast everything & let it cool
6. Once cooled down grind it to a smooth powder
7. With the help of a strainer, strain the powder 
8. And store in an airtight box for months in the fridge.

How to prepare: –
Ing: –
Water
Salt
Jaggery
Ghee
Milk

Method :
1.In a bowl keep water for boiling by adding salt to taste & jaggery 
2.Boil till the jaggery melts
3.Now take a bowl to add water and a 3tbsp spoon of prepared malt and mix well till smooth paste & no lumps should be left
4.now add this for boiling water and mix well and cook for some time
5. Once done add ghee & milk and mix well. 
6. Feed this healthy dish for your little ones as breakfast 

 

 

Ragi:-  Ragi (Eleusine coracana) is a widely growing annual plant found most abundantly in Africa and Asia. It is a hardy crop that can grow in high altitudes and withstand harsh weather conditions. Karnataka is the largest producer of this crop in India with 58% share in the country’s annual production. Benefits of ragi are numerous and it is a highly nutritious cereal loaded with calcium, proteins, iron and other minerals. It is rich in fiber and contains very less unsaturated fat that makes it a perfect food for weight loss.

 

                                                              Shall we start with our ragi recipe ??

 

                                                                                       RAGI DOSA:-   

 

Ingredients:-

1.ragi flour – 1cup

2.maida ( all purpose flour ) – 3tbsp

3.rice flour – half cup

4.zeera – half tbsp

5.soda – 2pinch

6.salt – to taste

7.water – as per your need

Method:-

1. Take a bowl, add  all given  above flours

2.now add salt, zeera, and soda

3.add water and mix well 

4.make it to a proper doas batter consistency

5.take a dosa tava once heated add dosa batter and give it a dosa shape with the help of a spoon

6.now add little oil all over

7.once cooked, flip it and cook it another side

8.serve hot with chutney 🙂 

                                                                              Ragi vermicelli upma:- 

Ingredients:-

  1. vermicelli made out of ragi – 2bowl ( fried in very little ghee)
  2. oil – 4tbsp
  3. green chilies – 5
  4. curry leaves – 6-7
  5. onion – 1chopped
  6. salt- to taste
  7. lemon – half
  8. mustard- half tblsp
  9. zeera- half tbsp
  10. coriander – for garnish
  11. water – very little as per your need.

Method:- 

  1. take a pan to add oil,
  2. once heated, add zeera, mustard seeds,
  3. curry leaves, chilies, onion,
  4. fry till the onion gets light golden brown,
  5. now add salt, lemon and mix well,
  6. add the ragi vermicelli, and fry for 1mnt,
  7. now add very little water as per your need… don’t add too much
  8. garnish it with coriander leaves,

                                                              serve hot with chutney and ghee 🙂       

 

Can we move towards a healthy famous Maharashtrian recipe ?? the ingredients used in this are muilt millets grans flours which is so healthy and tasty too…

                                                                                          Talipetu:-       

 

Ingredients:-

  1. rice flour – half bowl
  2. ragi – half bowl
  3. wheat flour – 2 bowl,
  4.  j0war flour – 1bowl
  5. besan (chickpeas) flour – half bowl

mix all together keep aside

vegetables:-

1.carrot – 2grated

2.cucumber – 1grated

3.onion- 1chopped

4.ginger- coin-sized

5.garlic – 1full

6.green chilies – 6-7

7.palak – half bunch chopped

8.methe – half bunch chopped

9. curry leaves – 10

10. coriander – little

 

other ings:-

  1. zeera – 1tbsp
  2. til- sesame ( white & black ) – both together 1tbsp
  3. turmeric – 1tblsp
  4. garam-masala – half tbsp
  5. honey- 1tbsp
  6. salt – to taste
  7. water- for making the dough
  8. oil – for cooking

For grinding:-

In a jar add, zeera, garlic, curry leaves, coriander, ginger and grind to paste

Method:-

1.in a bowl add all above ingredients and grinded paste to

2. now add little, little water to make a dough

3. apply little oil for the dough ( no resting time do it immediately )

4. now take a pan to keep it to heat

5. in the meanwhile take the dough of roti size

6. roll it with roti roller with oil or tap with hands by applying oil ( on milk plastic cover)

7. if tava is heated add the prepared talipetu by adding some oil or ghee ( optional ) once cooked one side flip it by again adding oil.

8. once cooked both the side serve hot with, ghee, chutney or curd 🙂

 

                                                                                       Raw millets:-

Ing:-

millets – as per ur choice

onion – 1 chopped

salt – to taste

red chilies powder – as per ur need

lemon – half

oil – 1tbsp

coriander – for garnish

method:-

                                                                             wash and soak overnight millets

                                                                               next morning drain the water

 

      now you can leave it for 4-5 hours till the sprouts come out

now add oil, chili powder, salt, onion and mix well and add lemon and garnish with coriander

you can eat this as it is or even you can serve it with roti as sabji… such a tummy full and full of protein recipe 🙂

 

                                                                                  Fenugreek powder:-

ing:-

fenugreek – 1bowl

zeera – 1tbsp

cardamom – 2

method:-

  1. dry roast all above ingredients
  2. grind it to smooth paste
  3. let it cool
  4. and store it in an airtight box.
  5. you can use this for making daily roti ( add half tablespoon while making dough)
  6. you can even use this in dosa batter if you forgot to add fenugreek while soaking
  7. you can use this even for preparing dals, sambar, and sabjis.
  8. you can add this while preparing ghee too
  9. you can add this in warm water and drink on an empty stomach
  10. such a healthy millet is fenugreek, do store it in your kitchen for your daily cooking and say hello to a healthy lifestyle…
