OM NAMO SHRI SAI SHIV NADHAN, GANAPATHI ROOP SAI KO VANDAN.
what a fool like me, can explain the life of a SAINT SHIRDI-SAIBABA. but still feel blessed to make up my mind and put up words, in a nutshell, to reach out to all my SAI devotees…
The original image of SHIRDI-SAIBABA
Before diving in life & Leelas of baba let’s go through the meaning of our beloved Sadguru Saibaba
SAI (aai) a mother or our Saimaa who protect her children from her loving glance…
Baba a father who stands with taking up the responsibility of his children…
Sai-baba (Saibaba) a Sadguru who always stands by the devotees for they well being to love & guide them & protect them at times…
Life of Baba: – A Santh like Sai Baba are born for human welfare & give sadgathi (moksha) for the devotees. The life of this sadguru is a tree which gives shelter who are under her protection…
The birth of Sai was never reviled by Deva.. Though the devotees kept questioning??? The birth date, place, parents or the religion He belonged was always a silence in words by Baba… So lets we devotees keep the silence of question regarding the birth of Baba… And respect his silence…
Let me start the life of SAIBABA with the author of SAI SATCHARITRA ” Govind R. Dabholkar alias Hemadpanth addressed by SAIBABA… (1856-1929)
Blessed is Hemadpanth who got the contact of SAIBABA, and have helped we all SAI devotees to know closely the life and teachings of SADGURU SAIBABA … Hemadpanth always kept telling that though I am writing the life and leelas of SAIBABA the inspiration behind this is SAIBABA itself…
Annasaheb was born in 1856 in a poor Brahmin family in Kelave-Mahim in Thana district… in the year 1910 Annasaheb got the good fortune to come in contact with SAIBABA, and came for dharshan at SHIRDI, at that time he was working as temporary govt, job but that was of a short duration . after his retirement he served SAIBABA till 1918, till SAIBABA took MAHA SAMADHI… and even after that till he took his last breath (1929)… blessed is the soul who got the good fortune to write the leelas of SHIRDI SAIBABA… and blessed are we who have the gift given by Annasaheb the SAI-SATCHARITRA…
Now coming back to Annasaheb, first visit to Shirdi in the year 1910, one fine morning when he went to the masjid in Shirdi to take SAIBABA’S darshan he was stunned to see the following incident … SAIBABA first washed his face, took his kafini up and started making the preparation for grinding the wheat flour, I had a question on my mind, as SAIBABA was a fakir and lived his life on bhiksha then why was he grinding this wheat flour?? at that time some women of Shirdi came there and asked SAIBABA that they will be doing this grinding work… once they were done they started to make parts of the flour to take to there houses … at that time SAIBABA got angry and started scolding who’s fathers property are you looting?? now, do this take this flour and put on the outskirts of Shirdi and come back… this was one of the method of Baba to put cholera out of SHIRDI… I was just blessed with this leela of SAIBABA’S towards his devotees …
cup of buttermilk:- Once Hemadpanth had eaten to his full capacity in the company, when SAIBABA offered him a cup of buttermilk. its white appearance pleased him,but there was no space for it, he, however, took only a sip, on seeing his faultering attitude, BABA said, “Drink it all, you wont get any such opportunity hereafter.” he drank it all of then, and found that BABA’S words were prophetic, for he passed away after brief period.
SAIBABA’S sweet & nectar-like words:-
one day at noon, after the arati, devotees were returning to there lodging’s, when SAIBABA gave the following advice:
” Be wherever you like, do whatever you choose, remember this well that, all that you do is known to ME. I am the inner ruler of all and seated in your heart. I envelope all the creatures, the movable and the immovable world… I am the wire-puller of the show of the universe… nothing will harm him, who turns his attention towards Me, after hearing this hemadpanth decided in his mind to serve no man henceforth but my Guru SAIBABA only…
In short, let us see the importance of SADGURU in the words of Saibaba:– once at DWARKAMAI as all were sitting at that time Kakasaheb Dixit went to BABA and asked where to go?? then SAIBABA says “high up” Then the man says ” where is the way?” Then BABA says there are many ways and one way from SHIRDI to, but yes the way is difficult … there are tigers and wolves in the jungles on the way… than kaka asks BABA what if we take a guide with us?? Than BABA answers Than there is no difficulty, the guide will take us straight to our destination, avoiding tigers and wolves on the way… by chance, if there is no guide, there is a chance of being lost in the jungles… at that time Mr. Dabholkar was present on the occasion and he thought that this was the example SAIBABA gave about the importance of a SADGURU in one’s life…
Chand Patil: – we all devotees come across this name how can we forget chandpatil the marriage function at his house got Sai to Shirdi for the second time… Yes it was chandpatil who brought light for Shirdi forever…
It was one afternoon when the sun was on peak and chandpatil was searching for his lost horse from many days, but failed to find it… From far he saw a fakir sitting under the tree and went nearby him and asked did you see my horse I have been searching it for a long time… Then Baba says why are you so anxious?? I will find your horse come rest a little i guess your tired wondering in this hot noon.. Sit for a while smoke some hoka, then chandpatil told to smoke some hoka we need water and fire in this forest from where will we get it… Then Sai took his satka and dashed it to the ground, to the surprise water and fire was found… Chandpatil was stunned seeing this Leela of Baba..
He requested you’re not just a fakir but Allah to me please help me to find my lost horse… Than Sai smiled and gave a loud voice to the horse and told chandpatil your horse is nearby the river drinking water go get him… When chandpatil went and made a search and he was happy to find his lost horse and he took it to Baba and fell at his feet and thanked him for showing mercy and finding his lost horse… And then he invites Sai to his house for some days, and he told give us a chance to serve you… after some days he invites SAIBABA for the wedding function at his house which was taking place at Shirdi… This was the second time Merciful SaiBaba visited Shirdi and stayed there for all throughout his life serving mankind… And took his Maha samadhi in the year 1918,15th October, at 2.30 PM… Saibaba’s body is resting at Shirdi, we find his soul awake and blessing his devotees… Blessed are we devotees who get to say “Sai-sai”… Which will free you from all the sins & give us salvation…
Bhagad-mahalsapati was the pujari of Khandoba temple at SHIRDI, He was addressed as “Mahalsa” or sometimes “Bhagat” by SAIBABA… blessed is the soul who got the chance to be with SAIBABA day and night…He was a native of Shirdi, a goldsmith by profession. His income from the barren land of 71/2 acres or the mud house or through profession was negligible. He had to maintain three daughters and a son apart from his wife. He was highly religious and pious. He was a worshipper of ‘Kbandoba’, (another name to Shiva) their family deity. He used to spend his time in Khandoba worship and reading Mhalsapati puranam. He used to be possessed by Lord Khandoba now and then. During that period villagers used to ask him questions and got replies. He had great respect for saintly persons.
Are there any devotees who got such an opportunity?
Another important point to be noted is preserving the body of Baba for 72 hours in his lap in the year 1886, In fact, we all are indebted to Mhalsapati for this act. Baba instructed Mhalsapati to preserve His body for 72 hours during which time He wanted to take His prana high up and to go into samadhi. With Baba’s body on his lap, he sat for full three days guarding it. How much faith and patience one requires to sit like that?
Mahalsapati was the first devotee who realised the real worth of Sai and started His Pooja. We learn that in the initial period Baba was considered to be a mad Fakir. But Mhalsapati continued to realize the godliness in Baba.
When Sai came the second time to Shirdi he was found near Khandoba temple, and then he was welcomed by the words as “Aao Sai” By ‘Bhagadh Mhalsapathi’ ever since the fakir came to be known as ‘Saibaba’.
Yes SAIBABA was seen here at Khandoba temple for the 2nd time at Shirdi & after that, he stayed here forever.
wonderful is the leelas of our sadguru Saibaba.. and even more wonderful are his 11 promises to his devotees which He had promised when he was physical and kept his words even now after his Maha Samadhi …
1. whoever puts his feet on Shirdi soil, his sufferings would come to an end.
2. the wretched and miserable would rise into plenty of joy and happiness as soon as they climb steps of my Samadhi.
3. I shall be ever active even from the tomb.
4. my tomb shall bless and speak to the needs of my devotees.
5. show unto Me who sought refuge and been turned away.
6. though I am no more in flesh and blood, I shall ever protect my devotees.
7. in whatever faith men worship Me, even so, do I render to them.
8. not in vain in my promise that I shall open, ask and you shall be granted.
9. knock, and the door shall open, ask and you shall be granted.
10. know that My spirit is immortal, know this for yourself.
11. blessed is he who has become one with Me.
SHIRDI:- Shirdi Saibaba Ki Nagari
Before knowing Baba let’s know about our Shirdi??
We all have come through this song
” Kashi bhi dheka, Mathura bhi dheka, Shirdi na dheka to kya tune dheka”
So true, so beautiful
Shirdi falls in kopargaon taluka of Ahmednagar district. After crossing the Godavari River at kopargaon one gets the way to Shirdi…
Do you know the original name of Shirdi??
‘ Shailathi ‘ yes Shirdi was known as Shailathi.. Later with time, it changed... “THE POWER OF PERFORMING MIRACLES” changed with Shirdi… The Karam bhumi of our Saibaba’S SHIRDI.
SAIBABA always told that I draw my people to me from long distance in many ways… it is I who seek them out & bring them to Me, people don’t come to SHIRDI on their own account …
Even though they may be thousands of miles away, I draw them to ME, like a bird with a string tied to its feet.
In the year 1910 SAIBABA’S fame spread to the whole of India, numerous people started visiting SHIRDI, as they thought SAIBABA as a SAINT & SADGURU…
The lifestyle of “SHIRDI SAIBABA:- at the young SAIBABA grew hair on his head, never had his head shaved. He dressed like an athlete. later as days went on BABA’S paraphernalia was consisted of a chillim, tobacco, a tumrel (tin pot) , long kafni, a piece of cloth round His head , brick & a sataka (short stick), which He always kept with Him, the piece of white cloth on His head was twisted like matted & flowed down from the left ear on the back… this was not washed for weeks . SAI wore no shoes, nor any sandals. A piece of sack-cloth was his seat for most of the day.
He wore a (waist-cloth-band) & for warding off cold, He always sat in front of DHUNI, (sacred-fire) facing south, with his left hand resting on the wooden railing.
SAIBABA ALWAYS UTTERED ” ALLAH MALIK “
SAIBABA sometimes wore the Ghungru (small-bells) tied on His ankles, and He danced beautifully & sung with tender love.
Turning water into oil:- SAIBABA was found of lights, SAI used to borrow oil from shopkeepers, and keep clay lamps burning the whole night in the DWARKAMAI… once on deepawali day the Banias, who supplied oil gratis, once met together & decided not to give oil for SAIBABA. and when SAI went as usual for oil, they all told they will be not giving Him any oil.
later when SAIBABA went to MASJID and he kept the dry wicks in the lamps, the Banias were watching SAI with curiosity, SAIBABA took his tinpot, which contained very little few drops of oil, BABA added water into it & drank it, & forced it to fall into the container … after this he added this water into the lamps & lighted them all…. for the surprise the lamps began to burn & the Banias we stunned … they all repented for there mistake & asked SAIBABA to forgive them…
And you know what the lights kept burning the whole night.
SAIBABA’S Yogic practices:- SAIBABA knew all the processes and practices of yoga
1- DHAUTI KRYA OR CLEANSING PROCESS:- SAIBABA used to go nearby well which was near to DWARKAMAI every third day, took the bath … on one occasion, SAIBABA was seen throwing up his intestine, cleaning them inside outside and place them on Jamb tree for drying.
2- KHANDA YOGA:- in this yoga SAIBABA extracted the limbs from His body & left them separately at different places at MASJID…
SAIBABA’S BEGGING FOOD (BHIKSHA):- as we all know SAIBABA was a FAKIR, who used to take bhiksha from house to house at SHIRDI … in one hand He carried a Tumrel (tinpot) & in other a Zoli … SAIBABA daily visited certain houses & went from door to door. liquid or semi-liquid things, such as soup, vegetables, milk, or buttermilk, were received in the tinpot & Zoli. the food BABA collected in Bhiksha was kept in an earthen pot, dogs, cats & crows freely ate from it… the women who used to sweep the floor of MASJID took some 10-12 pieces of rotis to her house…
” BLESSED ARE THE PEOPLE OF SHIRDI, IN FRONT OF WHOSE HOUSE, SAIBABA STOOD AND CALLED OUT ” OH MAI, BHIKSHA ” GIVE ME A PIECE OF BREAD & SPREAD OUT HIS HAND TO RECEIVE THE SAME! “
SAIBABA’S cooking and handi:- SAIBABA required very little food for Himself, and whatever little He wanted was obtained by BHIKSHA from few houses. but whenever He decided to distribute food to all, He made all preparations by Himself, never depended on anyone… all the arrangements were done by Baba Himself both veg & non-veg were cooked by BABA and served separately to all the people of SHIRDI and SAIBABA never forced to people to non-veg if they were not eating non-veg … the food prepared by BABA was very tasty .
SAIBABA’S wonderful Bed-stead:- Mr.Nanasaheb dengle brought for BABA, a wooden plank, about 4 arms in length and only a span in breath, for sleeping upon. instead of the plank on the floor & then sleeping on it, BABA tied it like a swing to the rafter of the MASJID with old shreds or rags & commenced to sleep upon it, the rags were so thin and worn out that it was a wonder, how they could bear or support the weight of BABA and the plank. and HE also lighted 4 panatis on 4corners …you know in a blink BABA would climb up & in a blink HE used to be down,
all the people were stunned to see this Leela of SAI.
A short and sweet Leela of SAIBABA:- Once in the year 1910, SAIBABA was sitting near the DHUNI at DWARKAMAI on a Diwali day and warming Himself & pushing the woods in the DHUNI … after some time instead of pushing the woods He suddenly pushed his hands into the fire & the arms got completely burnt … and present their devotees Madhav & Shama saw this caught BABAS waist from behind & dragged SAI backwards & asked ” DEVA, FOR WHAT HAVE YOU DONE THIS?” then SAIBABA came to his sense and replied, ” the wife of a Blacksmith at some distance place was working below of the furnace, her husband called her, forgetting that the child was on her lap, she got up hastily & the child slipped into the furnace, I immediately thrust My hands into the furnace & saved the child …
” I DO NOT MIND MY ARMS BEING BURNT BUT, I AM GLAD THAT THE LIFE OF CHILD IS SAVED.”
Baijabai:- Tatya Kote Patil’s mother, Baijabai, used to go to the woods every noon with a basket on her head containing bread & vegetables. she roamed in jungles about 3miles, trampling bushes & shrubs in search of SAIBABA & after finding SAI, fell at HIS feet and used give HIM the food she brought … “ SAIBABA used to call Baijabai as Baijamaa”
Mr. cholkar’s sugarless tea ( one of my fav chapter):- SAIBABA was known in Poona & Ahmednagar districts but by the ” DAS GUNU ” MAY GOD BLESS HIM. who by his beautiful bhajans & kirtans, made SAIBABA available to so many people.
Das ganu once doing kirtan in the glory of SAIBABA, in koupineshwar temple at Thana. one Mr. cholkar a poor man, serving as a temporary employee in the civil courts in Thana, was amongst the audience. He heard Das ganu’s kirtan most attentively and was much moved. He thereby itself took a vow to SAIBABA saying ” BABA I AM A POOR MAN, UNABLE TO SUPPORT MY FAMILY, IF YOUR GRACE, I PASS THE DEPARTMENTAL EXAMINATION AND GET A PERMANENT JOB I SHALL COME TO SHIRDI AND FALL AT YOUR FEET AND DISTRIBUTE SWEETS CANDY TO ALL IN YOUR NAME.” and look what happened he was passed in the exams by SAIBABA’S GRACE …
now the time was to fulfill his vow ” THE SOONER THE BETTER” Mr. cholkar did was a poor man, with a large family to support & he could not afford to pay the expenses of a SHIRDI trip. AS WELL SAID, ONE CAN EASILY CROSS OVER NAHNE GHAT IN THANA DISTRICT OR EVEN THE SAHYADRI RANGE BUT ITS VERY DIFFICULT FOR A POOR MAN TO CROSS UMBAR GHAT…
Mr.cholkar was anxious to fulfill his vow so he decided to save money & he determined not to use sugar in his tea, till he saves some money to fulfill his vow… after saying some money he was all set ready to go for SHIRDI and fall at SAIBABA’S leg and fulfill his vow. and finally, he came to SHIRDI, fell at BABA’S feet offered coconut, distributed the sugar candy as per his vow and that his desires were fulfilled that day. Mr.cholkar and Bapusaheb jog were together … and once they started to leave the MASJID , SAIBABA spoke to jog as follow ” GIVE YOUR GUEST CUP OF TEA FULLY SATURATED WITH SUGAR” hearing these significant words Mr.cholkar was much moved, he was wonderstruck, his eyes were full of tears & he fell at BABA’S feet again… such a wonderful was the love of SAIBABA towards his devotees…
” IF YOUR SPREAD YOUR PALMS WITH DEVOTION BEFORE ME, I IMMEDIATELY WITH YOU, DAY AND NIGHT. THOUGH I AM HERE PHYSICALLY, STILL, I KNOW WHAT YOU DO BEYOND SEVEN SEAS. GO WHERE EVER YOU WISH, I AM WITH YOU… ALWAYS WORSHIP ME, WHO IS SEATED IN YOUR HEART, BLESSED AND FORTUNATE INDEED IS HE, WHO KNOWS ME!”
RAM-NAVAMI FESTIVAL:- Ram-Navami is the most celebrated festival at SHIRDI, once all the devotees together asked SAIBABA for the permission to celebrate the Ramnavami festival … and SAIBABA approved for the festival later even they got the sanction for celebration…
Do you know along with Ramnavami even ” THE SANDAL PROCESSION ” took place both Hindus & Muslims together celebrated these two festivals with SAIBABA’S grace…
This day was very dear to all the SAI’S devotees, most of the devotees turned up and took part in this occasion and the management of the fair… whole DWARKAMAI was cleaned by Radhakrishnamai, and outside work was handled by Tatya-kothe-patil… the whole SHIRDI looked so beautiful and colourful… dishes were cooked in grand-scale & preparations of sweets were also done.
The Sandal procession:- this procession was held in honor of great Muslims saints, Sandal paste is put into a thali, & carried with incense burning before them in procession with the band, music all through the village…
FOLLOWING THIS INSTANCE, LET US SEE SAIBABA’S FORM, LOOK AT BABAS POSTURE, HOW FINE IT IS!, HE IS SITTING WITH HIS LEGS FOLDED, THE RIGHT LEG HELD ACROSS THE LEFT KNEE. THE FINGERS OF HIS LEFT HAND ARE SPREAD ON THE RIGHT FOOT, ON TOE ARE SPREAD HIS TWO FINGERS – THE INDEX AND MIDDLE ONES. BY THIS POSTURE BABA SEEMS TO SAY – IF YOU WANT TO SEE MY TRUE FORM, BE EGOLESS & MOST HUMBLE, AND MEDITATE ON MY TOE THROUGH THE OPENING BETWEEN – INDEX AND MIDDLE FINGERS- AND THEN YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE MY LIGHT.
GURUSTHAN:- SAIBABA was first seen as a young lad of about 16 years at SHIRDI, even at this age He looked full of the knowledge of Brahma. there was no desire for worldly objects… SAIBABA cared least for these things…
SAIBABA used to sit under the Neem tree, absorbed, the knowledge of almighty, the supreme, the only one. ” SAB KA MALIK EK HAI.” as He used to say often. being thus absorbed in the sacredness, even though He would not communicate with anyone, people of SHIRDI were attracted to HIM.
GURURSTHAN, is the holy SAMADHI, place of SAIBABA… as described in SAI-SATCHARITRA, Lord Khandoba possessed the body of a person and told to bring a pickaxe & dig in particular place, when it was dug, bricks were found underneath a flat stone. when the stone was removed, a corridor led to a cellar were cow-mouth-shaped structure, wooden boards, necklaces were seen. Kkandoba said, ” THIS LAD PRACTICED PENANCE HERE FOR 12YEARS.”
” SADA NIMBAVRIKSHASYA MOOLADHIWASAAT,
SUDHASTRAVINAM TIKTAMAPIAPRIYAM TAM,
TARUM KALPAVRIKSHADHIKAM SADHAYANTAM,
NAMAMEESHWARAM SADGURUM SAI-NATHAM.”
GURUSTHAN BEFORE & AFTER
DWARKAMAI:- SAIBABA spent his 60 year’s in serving mankind at this beautiful DWARKAMAI before BABA coming here it was a broken MASJID, but later SAIBABA staying there it turned into a beautiful DWARKAMAI…
SAIBABA always told that this is Shri Krishna’s Dwarka, whoever rests on her lap will get rid of all his problems & bad deeds… and gets blessings from masjidmai…
Those who resort to this Masjid shall never suffer anything in this life to the end of time, believe in God! he who steps here will soon get good health and happiness & his sufferings will come to an end.
However, oppressed & troubled one may be, as soon as he steps in this Masjid, he is on the path of happiness… all irrespective of caste and religion were treated the same.
DHUNI:- SAIBABA lighted the fire known as ” DHUNI ” the Sanjeevini for all we SAI devotees…
” UDI THE POWER OF FAITH.” :- The sacred ashes of SAIBABA, which He had burnt during His life for the welfare of His devotees & which has been burning till now…
UHI is the ash that drops from the holy fire kindled by BABA a hundred years ago… the great master who used this ASH for healing the sick, thus investing the UDI with great power by the gesture. even now the sick and the unhappy alike are healed if they take this divine medicine with faith.
SAIBABA distributed UDHI to all those who went to MASJID . after noon arthi BABA would give hand full of UDHI and bless them, and then send them for their noon lunch.
SAIBABA would say, that this is sanjeevini would not only cure diseases but also help them to come out of the problems & give them happiness & salvation.
SAIBABA would always advise that daily after the bath apply the UDHI to forehead & mix it with water and take it in stomach & then start your day…
The poem was written by Hemadpanth:- DAUGHTER OF NANA LAY IN LABOUR PAIN, UNBEARABLE WAS HER PAIN. EVERYBODY FROM JAMNER PRAYED FOR BABAS HELP… BABA COULD ASSESS FAITH OF DEVOTEE’S, IN THOUGHT RAN NANA’S PLIGHT. IT DID MELT BABA’S HEART SO; SENT UDHI. SO QUICKLY IN A JIFF CAME RELIEF, SAFE & SOUND HIS DAUGHTER DELIVERED BABA FREED HER OF PAIN OF LABOUR WHEN HER LIPS TOUCHED THE ASH.
” THE SACRED ASH OF SAI IS SO HOLY, RESURRECTS THE DEAD TO LIFE INDEED, AND CURES THE DISEASE OF THOSE. WHO PLACE FAITH IN BABA’S UDHI.
” PARAMAM PAVITRAAM BABA VIBHUTHIM,
PARAMAM VICHITRAM LEELA VIBHUTHIM,
PARAMARTHA ISHTHARTA MOKSHA PRADANAM,
BABA VIBHUTHIM IDAM MASHRAYAMI,
SAI VIBHUTHIM IDAM MASHRAYAMI.”
Chavadi:- Chavadi was also given more importance those days and even now. SAIBABA started sleeping in CHAVADI from 1909. SAIBABA was taken in procession from DWARKAMAI to CHAVADI. the alternate sleeping of both these places went on till SAIBABA’S MAHASAMADHI.
SAIBABA would come with great honor and with lots of love from his devotees, as the king of the whole universe was honored and the beautiful bhajans were sung & musical instruments were played. SAIBABA stood there with a consternate mind facing north, lots of colors was thrown on SAI. words fail to describe the splendor of this scene. men & women, poor and rich, flocked there. BABA walked at a very slow pace, bhakth followed on both the sides with love and devotion.
those days are gone now, nobody can see them in the future, but by remembering and visualization that sight, we can bring solace and ecstasy to our mind.
Before you sleep, if you have read the CHAVIDI PROCESSION OF SAIBABA in Sai Satcharita or seen At Shirdi, where it is being enacted every Thursday, Assimilate it as if you are a part of it and then sleep, it hardly takes 2 minutes,Sai will reside in you and solve your next days problems if any,
CHAVADI PROCESSION OF SAIBABA,
Evry alternate day, Sai used to sleep in the chavadi, So devotees used to perform bhajan in Dwarakamai for a few hours, Behind them, was a Beautifull palaquin, to the right a Tulsi Vrindavan, and in front Baba Adorned his seat, and then Tatya Patil used to come with a group of men to Baba and used to help him to get up by putting his arm under Baba’s arm.sai used to kindle the dhuni to make it burn low put out the diya and the amid chanting and jaykars, The fully decorated horse shama Karna led the way. In this manner the procession reached Chavadi and other devotees used to line up and started towards chavadi. from Dwarakamai, Then all sorts of musical Instruments, band horns etc gave out different sounds and fireworks exhibited various colored views. some danced with joy and some carried various flags. On reaching the corner Baba stood facing the Chavadi with a concentrated mind. Sai used to raise his hand up and down a few times, K aksaheb Dixit at this time came forward with a silver plate containing flowers mixed with gulal and Threw them on Baba’s body off and on.like this the whole procession reached Chavadi, The Chavadi was fully Decorated with good white ceiling, mirrors and many sorts of lamps, There an Asan was spread and placing a Bolster Baba was made to sit and made to wear an angharka (coat)where they used to be waiting with Chandan, and then apply Chandan and give arati to Baba.N anasaheb held the chaitra,Bapusaheb washed his feet offered Arghya and worship with Due Rituals and offered himTambul( betel leaves) Shyama then prepared the chillum and handed it over to Baba after that the chillum was smoked by Sai it was passed around and naivedya was offered, after it was over one by one took leave of him, then he used to prepare bed with 50 or 60 chaddars and then tell Tatya to go if he wanted but return sometime at night and enquire for him.
” I AM THE ATTRIBUTE LESS ‘ NIRGUNA’ I HAVE NO NAME AND NO RESIDENCE.”
” I AM NOT THE BODY OR THE SENSES. I AM THE ETERNAL ‘ SAKSHI’ (WITNESS).”
” I REQUIRE NO DOORS TO ENTER. I HAVE NO FORM NOR DO I HAVE ANY LIMITATIONS. I AM ALWAYS EXISTENT IN ALL ANIMATE & INANIMATE OBJECTS. I AM THE WIREPULLER OF ALL ACTIONS OF THE MAN WHO TRUSTS ME & MERGES IN ME & ULTIMATELY PROVIDES HIM LIBERATION.
If you spread your palms with devotion before Me, I shall immediately be with you at any time of the day and night. Though I am here physically yet I know all that happens beyond the seven seas. Seated in your heart, I am in fact your Inner Self. Always worship Him alone who is seated in your heart as well as in the hearts of all beings. Blessed and fortunate indeed is he, who is aware of My omnipresent and omniscient form.
SAMADHI OF SAIBABA:- SAIBABA took His MAHA-SAMADHI in the year 1918, October 15th, at 2.30pm. on Vijaya-Dashmi, and was the day of Muharrum and also the day of Buddha Jayanthi on 15th October 1918, on that day when SAIBABA went for his begging, then on the way, He meets Buti & the following conversation took place:-
Buti – SAI the building of Mansion is over, today is an auspicious hour, so should we?
SAIBABA:- consecrate the statue today? so, Mansion & temple is ready?? wait, wait but do not keep it today. Dussehra day augurs well; such day comes only once a year. that day, people gather both for Dussehra & Muharram. then SAIBABA starts to sing the following lines
” THIS HOUSE IS MY MASTER’S I WANT TO STAY HERE.”
Then a man comes with a garland to BABA, then SAIBABA’S says why do you garland ME? better put it on to that well ” SHE IS THE MOTHER WHO GIFTS WATER TO ALL”
then BABA says to the devotees, who were with him that the worship has begun in the temple, why haven’t you gone? then the devotees replied that why should we go there when our God is here before us.
SAIBABA:- I am your god? can god ever fall sick? in this sickness, where he to die?
then the devotees said that SAI today is auspicious day do not utter words of ill omen.
SAIBABA:- I am not well today. see, what has happened to this ripened leaf. they are returning to the dust. enough it’s the time to change the old clock, I tried to mend it but change it on time.
and at that time the cleaning of DWARKAMAI was going on, and while cleaning suddenly the holy brick falls from the boy hand which was very dear to SAIBABA as it was gifted by His guru to HIM.
Than SAIBABA said that the final call has come, I MUST DEPART NOW, MY last wish is to survey the village. THEN, I WILL REST.
Then BABA comes on the way to his GURUSTHAN ( THE NEEM TREE) AND JOINS HIS HANDS AND SAY’S THAT DEAR ONE’S THIS IS THE PLACE OF MY GURU EVERY THURSDAY, AND FRIDAY BURN INCENSE HERE IT’S FOR YOUR WELFARE, POUR OIL IN THAT LAMP, THAT LAMP EMBODIES MY FAITH.
Than SAIBABA returns to DWARKAMAI & sits on his aasan & tell’s HIS devotees that, all of you go have your lunch.. than lakshmibai gets food to SAI, in a basket on her head.
Than BABA says you have brought food for ME?? till now you gave food for ME. I fed it to all animals that must have hurt you. hunger, be it to man, or insets, is awful. you have fed ME what will I give you in return? than SAIBABA removes
9coins ( MUMUKSHU, VIRAKTI, ANTARMUKHA, CATHARSIS, RIGHT CONDUCT, PREFERRING SHREYAS, TOPREYAS, CONTROL OF THE MIND & THE SENSES, PURIFICATION OF MIND, THE NECESSITY OF GURU)
from HIS pocket and says that ” WHO VALUES THIS MATERIAL BODY? before your every eye, with dust, it mingles so say’s KABIR.
” AND FINALLY DOING CHARITY TO LAKSHMIBAI SHINDE AND THEN SAIBABA FINALLY RESTED ON BAYAJI’S LAP.
The important teachings of SAIBABA during HIS SAMADHI
1. LET SERVICE TO THE SICK BE OUR RELIGION, EVER SERVE THE SUFFERING, GOD WILL TAKE THE NOTE.
2. HUNGER IS VERY BAD, WHETHER IT BE TO HUMANS OR ANIMALS. DON’T FORGET THE DUMB ANIMALS. THEIR DUMB GRATITUDE IS AKIN TO GOD’S BLESSINGS.
3. CHILDREN’S ARE LIKE FLOWERS BLOOMED IN GOD’S COURTYARD, THEIR MIND IS TENDER. DONT MAKE THEM CRY IT’S LIKE WET SOIL BENEATH TULIS YOU REAP AS YOU SOW.
4. PEOPLE OF LOW CASTE TOO, ARE OF MANKIND, THEY HAVE SERVED US A LOT BY SERVICE, AND THEY ARE DEAR TO GOD! WE, TO SHOULD ENDEAR THEM.

Samadhi mandir before
SAMADHI MANDIR NOW
In 1908, one Krishna Jageswar Bheeshma of Nagpur, got a dream in which he saw a venerable Brahmin who showed him a paper on which it was written “Sacchidananda”. Bheeshma approached many people for explanation of that dream but none could satisfy him.
After some time, he visited Shirdi along with another devotee Khaparde. When he visited Sai Baba, before he said anything Baba smiled and said “Jai Sacchidananda!” That immediately sparked his recollection of the dream and he wondered whether Baba himself was his guru. But he doubted himself thinking that the one who came in the dream was a Brahmin but Baba was a fakeer.
As an answer to his un-uttered question it seems, Baba said “I am everywhere. Mumbai, pune, nagpur, etc. are all full of Rama, you see! You have to give me five laddus!”
The next day, upon waking up, Bheeshma who was a scholar, got inspiration and immediately wrote two hymns in the praise of Sai Baba. However, he could not sustain that inspiration any longer. When he wrote them down and offered them to Baba, Baba asked him to sing them. After the singing, Baba laid his hand on Bheeshma’s head and blessed him. Immediately Bheeshma has inspired once again and wrote three more songs then and there.
Devotees like Madhav Phasle, Dasaganu, Upasani Baba, etc., added a few more hymns to those songs and started singing them as Arti every day in front of Baba. And Baba accepted them.
That is why you will listen to the names of those devotees in those songs.
“thaveetya krishna paayi.. namuni savinaye.. arpito ashtakaasi” (This Krishna (krishna jageshwar bheeshma) is offering you these Ashtaka) That set is written by Bheeshma.
“Sada sat swaroopam chidaananda kandam “ was written by Upasani Baba.
“Rehem nazar karo.. “ was written by Dasaganu.
“Jaya Deva Jaya Deva Datta Avadhoota” was (i am not sure about this) written by Madhav Phasle.
Since these Aaratis were written by the direct inspiration of Baba Himself and were accepted by Him, it is of the great purport that devotees sing them while understanding the meanings too.
THE BEAUTIFUL SAMADHI MANDIR WAS BUILT BY BOOTY IN WHO’S DREAM SAIBABA CAME AND ASKED TO BUILD THE TEMPLE.
” ANANTA KOTI BRAMANDA NAYAKA RAJADIRAJA YOGIRAJA PARABRAMA SHREE SACCIDANANDA SADGURU SAINATH MAHARAJ KI JAI.”
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Bharthi reddy, chetu shri, & reena sharma, amna shamsi… for all your love & support 🙂
